LET ME HELP YOU TEACH READING STEP-BY-STEP AT HOME
Hi! I’m Shana! So how do you teach reading step-by-step at home? I’m here to guide you through the sometimes complicated task of teaching your child how to read at home and break it down into simple tasks that everyone can do. Whether you’re a full-time HomeSchool momma, or a mom who wants to give her child a jumpstart on school, or even a mom who needs to help her struggling child in the evenings or on the weekends, I can share with you the steps necessary to make that happen. (Dads are also welcome!)
WHO AM I?
I just retired from teaching after 24 years, so I finally have more time to do the creative things that I have always wanted to do. I started my teaching career in Kansas as a Title One Aid, then a Title One|Reading Recovery Teacher. Then I moved to Illinois and taught Primary Reading to 1st and 2nd graders for 11 years and RTI (Response To Intervention) to grades K-4 for 2 years. I moved back to Kansas to teach 4th grade for 2 years, then Math Enrichment for 1 year, and finally 1st grade for 2 years. The one constant in all of this is my love of teaching reading. Seeing the joy on the face of a non-reader when they finally get it always made my day! Read more about me here…
The first place you’ll want to check out is the Step-By-Step tab at the top. There you will find all of the Tips and Tutorials on how to get started if you have a beginning reader. I have even included some beginning reading assessment FREEBIES. These are the ones I use to get to know each child’s knowledge of the alphabet, sounds, and words.
Here’s a link to the first step – Step 1: Assessment: Letters and Sounds. That’s a great place to start! All the posts are identified by Step and Part to make it easier for you to follow in order. I hope you find the information useful. Please feel free to leave a comment if you like what you’ve found or if you have any questions.
While you’re here, don’t forget to sign up for the Newsletter. That way you’ll get all the new tips and tutorials sent directly to your email and you won’t miss any valuable content.
